Marble Polishing and Etching

Marble polishing powder is used to remove etches on your natural stone. But, what exactly is etching? Etches are small or even large dull spots on your natural stone. Etches dull the surface finish of your stone and can change the texture. Etch marks on natural stone are caused by acids or acidic liquids coming into contact with your stone. Acidic products such as orange juice, tomato juice, cola products, and even some cleaning products can etch the finish of your stone. Most marbles and limestone readily etch but the majority of granites are acid resistant and rarely etch. Some materials will just etch your stone while other products or materials will stain and etch. If your stone is stained and etched, you will need to remove the stain first. See Stain Removal Guidelines. Once the stain is removed, light etches can be removed with a little marble polishing powder. Find a user friendly product such as MB-11 Marble Polishing Powder. This is a professional grade product made for the homeowner. Using the MB-11 Marble Polishing Powder isn't difficult. Basically, you sprinkle the MB-11 on your etch and then lightly mist it with water. You can rub the powder into the stone with a damp cloth or use a buffing pad with a low speed power drill. Continue buffing until the etch mark disappears and your marble surface shines. Deep etches require resurfacing of your stone. If you are unable to remove an etch mark, you should contact your stone care professional.
