Belgian diamond industry veteran Jacky Roth has been approved as a member of the World Diamond Council's Board of Directors after being recommended by the presidents of each of Belgian's four diamond exchanges. WDC President Eli Izhakoff also backed Roth's appointment.
Izhakoff said that the WDC Board of Directors was "privileged to have an individual with Jacky's breadth of knowledge and experience" and expressed confidence that Roth would "play a valuable role in helping the WDC fulfill its valuable mission."
Roth was first elected to the board of the Antwerp Diamond Bourse in 1979, and in subsequent years served in many positions at the diamond bourse itself as well as the Federation of Belgian Diamond Bourses.
In 1982, Roth was elected a member of the board of the Diamond High Council, an umbrella organization representing Belgian's diamond trade center. In 2006, the Diamond High Council underwent a restructuring and became the Antwerp World Diamond Center, two years after Roth was elected president.
After his retirement from the presidency of the Antwerp World Diamond Center earlier this year, Roth was named Honorary President of the AWDC.
In 2005, King Albert II awarded Roth the title of Commander in the Order of Leopold II for his role in Belgium's diamond industry.
