Beijing police are investigating the theft of a $320,000 diamond ring from a Tiffany jewelry store in the Oriental Plaza in Beijing, China.
The Oriental Times reported that the suspect – whose identity police were refusing to disclose, other than describing him as a "foreign man" – had visited the store a number of times prior to the robbery.
According to news reports, the suspect distracted the only employee in the store by throwing something on the floor. When the shop assistant bent to pick it up, the suspect allegedly snatched the 3-carat diamond ring – valued at $320,000, and left through the front door, with the shop assistant in pursuit.
Neither the management of the shopping mall nor the Tiffany & Co. diamond company had any comment on the robbery.
