The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) has begun upgrading its diamond cut measuring systems and is now using the new generation DiaMension HD from Israel's Sarin Technologies, which provides cutting-edge diamond mapping and evaluation technologies that are widely employed throughout the diamond industry.
The GIA found that Sarin's DiaMension HD generated high-fidelity 3D modeling and was a more precise instrument for measuring polished diamonds.
Since the system upgrade is being implemented in phases, the GIA will have an opportunity to evaluate performance by the DiaMension HD units already in use and determine whether the system is appropriate for measuring the symmetry features of polished diamonds.
DiaMension HD employs a high-resolution digital camera, specially designed optical lenses that can be interchanged, and a special lighting module. These new-generation features enable unparalleled scanning and accuracy of diamonds ranging in size from 3 mm to 28 mm.
The new DiaMension HD is supported by the 5.0 or later versions of Sarin's DiaVision software, which the GIA has said provides cut grade estimates that are "highly compatible" with the GIA's own diamond cut grades.
Sarin CEO Uzi Levami said the company was "proud" that the GIA decided to upgrade to its DiaMension HD and was convinced that other bodies in the diamond trade would "adopt the high standards of the GIA."
Levami said that such a transition would "create a higher standard of precision and cut grade evaluation throughout the trade, manufacturing, and grading process."
