Gemologists and other scientists, as well as members of the gemstone and jewelry profession, are invited to submit abstracts for the Gemological Institute of America's (GIA) Symposium 2011: Advancing the Science and Business of Gems.
The 2011 GIA symposium is scheduled for May 29-30, and will feature two tracks. The Advances in Gemological Research track will feature sessions on gem formation and localities; identifying diamonds, colored gemstones, and pearls; and new technology and instruments being used by the gemstone and diamond industry.
The second track, Advancing the Gem Industry, will address marketing issues; political, ethical, and legal issues; evaluation of diamonds and other gemstones; and sessions on the history of jewelry, gemstone and diamond jewelry design; and jewelry manufacture.
Abstracts for presentations must be submitted through the GIA's symposium site: symposium2011.gia.edu. All abstracts must be submitted by January 10, 2011, and selected presenters will be notified by March 1, 2011. In addition, all abstracts submitted to the GIA will be published in the Gems & Gemology journal.
