The 2nd Annual Diamond Dash: Dash for a Diamond & a Cure event sent some 300 people racing from one Manhattan landmark to another this weekend.
The Diamond Dash, which raises money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, is sponsored by Michael C. Fina and the Tacori diamond jewelry house. Participants, hoping to snag the top prize of a $20,000 Tacori platinum and diamond engagement ring and honeymoon in Mexico, followed clues from one site to another, photographing themselves at each location.
Chris D'Alonzo and Julie Joseph completed the modern-day scavenger hunt first, winning a chance to propose live at the Gansevoort Hotel. D'Alonzo dropped to his knee and asked Joseph – whose mother was diagnosed with state 4 cancer a year ago – if she would "make him the happiest man in the world."
Joseph said that having seen first-hand how cancer affects sufferers and their families, any event benefiting the fight against cancer was "extremely close" to both their hearts, but actually winning the event was "beyond their wildest dreams."
The happy couple was presented with their prize ring, which featured a 1.5 carat Tacori diamond set with another carat of diamonds in a classic engagement ring design.
