Diamond Exports Push Botswana into Trade Surplus

Botswana has posted its first trade surplus since October 2008, the country's Central Statistics Office announced.
According to the Mmegi.bw news website, diamond exports rose 55% from May 2010 to June 2010, and June marked the strongest monthly export of diamonds since August 2008.
As a percentage of total exports, diamonds rose from 69.6% in May 2010 to 75.1% in June.
Botwana's non-diamond exports were also up, with a 50% rise in copper and nickel and a 70% increase in textiles.
