The world's most expensive Monopoly set, crafted from 18k gold and featuring gemstone houses and hotels, is on display at the Museum of American Finance, loaned from the Smithsonian.
The $2 million Monopoly set also features a $10,000 pair of dice set with 42 polished diamonds for the dots.
San Francisco jeweler Sidney Mobell was inspired to create the luxe gold and diamond Monopoly edition in 1988 when he heard about a Monopoly tournament in London. He requested and received permission from Parker Brothers to recreate the game and spent a solid year making it.
When Mobell started his project, gold prices were between $360 and $460/ ounce. Today, the price of gold exceeds $1,300/ounce.
