The foreign ministers of China and Costa Rica Monday vowed to push bilateral ties to a new high.
During talks in Beijing, Yang Jiechi, Chinese Foreign Minister, said China attached great importance to China-Costa Rica relations and their development had been accelerated since the new government of Costa Rica was founded in May.
With Costa Rica's adherence to the one-China policy and the mutual support and coordination of the two sides in international affairs, China hoped to work with Costa Rica for concrete cooperation in all fields, Yang said.
Costa Rican Foreign Minister Rene Castro Salazar pledged to work with China to enhance friendly cooperation, and reiterated Costa Rica's adherence to the one-China policy.
Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu met with Rene Castro Salazar later Monday.
The establishment of China-Costa Rica relations was in the fundamental interests of both countries and their peoples, Hui said.
China and Costa Rica forged diplomatic ties in June 2007.
Hui suggested that both sides strengthen high-level exchanges and promote political mutual trust.
China and Costa Rica should also deepen friendly and mutually beneficial cooperation and expand cultural exchanges, Hui said.
Rene Castro Salazar said that Costa Rica would like to work with China to continuously deepen and expand cooperation in economy and trade, infrastructure construction, clean energy, aviation, tourism and Chinese language teaching for their common development based on mutual benefit.
As a guest of Yang, Rene Castro Salazar is paying an eight-day official visit to China. He will also visit China's northern port city Tianjin and the economic hub of Shanghai.
