The 2010 diamond sampling program conducted at the Block J marine diamond concession off the coast of Namibia – 70% owned by Afri-Can Marine Minerals Corporation – has yielded 398 diamonds with a combined weight of 48.30 carats, the company reports.
The diamonds recovered in the sampling weighed between 0.01 carats and 0.64 carats.
Geological models indicate that the total concession could contain 1.2 million to 1.5 million carats of diamonds, and the sampling showed the highest diamondiferous content to be 0.25 carats per square meter.
Richard Foster, author of the diamond company's report on sampling at Block J, wrote that the concession offered "good development potential" and noted that "trial mining in the higher grade area can be expected to recover some larger diamonds, which might increase the average diamond size."
