The charges againt Erez Ben-Shushan, 47, an Israeli charged in a Namibia diamond heist, will probably be dropped following a decision by the Namibian Prosecutor General, Namibian.com reported.
Ben-Shushan is the only suspect to have been charged in the the theft of 1,036 polished diamonds weighing 1,713 carats and valued at some $2.64 million from a safe at the NamGem diamond cutting plant, where Ben-Shushan is the production manager.
Although Ben-Shushan had access to the safe, the court acknowledged that others also could have gotten at the diamonds. According to the report, The Israeli also passed a lie-detector test, as opposed to other potential suspects in the heist. An internal disciplinary hearing held by the NamGem diamond company found the Israeli not guilty. A final decision on the matter is pending at the Okahandja Magistrate’s Court.
