Three Romanian diamond thieves were apprehended in a Helsinki harbor on Thursday morning as they attempted to board a ferry for Stockholm, the 'Helsinki Times' reported.
The three had come from to Helsinki Stockholm on the previous day and shortly afterwards stolen diamond rings valued at tens of thousands of euros from a jewelry store in the city. Most of the rings were recovered from the thieves.
According to the report, the three used a technique that has recently become widespread, distracting the salesperson and then grabbing the rings from the display cabinet and bolting. A police detective Jukka Larkio told the 'Times' that the phenomena, called "snatching," was especially prevalent among Romanian thieves.
