The International Diamond Manufacturers Association (IDMA) has announced plans to hold its 2011 Presidents' Meeting in Gaborone, Botswana, from April 4-7, 2011.
IDMA President Moti Ganz said that it had called the meeting to acknowledge the rising role of diamond manufacturing in diamond-producing countries, particularly in Africa, and to stay informed about how those emerging manufacturers of diamonds would affect established centers.
Ganz said the IDMA was "delighted to accept the invitation issued by the Botswana government and the Botswana Diamond Manufacturing Association…. Botswana is the best example of how the diamond mining industry has contributed positively to the development of the economy and social structure of a previously disadvantaged country."
Jacob Thamage, Coordinator of the Botswana Diamond Hub, said that his government looked forward to hosting the presidents of IDMA members, calling the decision a "great honor."
"Holding this meeting in Botswana will not only further relations between my country and IDMA, but will also further cement Botswana's importance as a key player in the diamond industry."
