Miner Rockwell Diamonds has posted its periodical performance report, noting latest sale averaged $1,244 per carat.
The figures, it said, were helped by a large number of sales of rough diamonds larger than 10 carats. Rockwell sold 5,294.55 carats for $6.6 million.
The diamonds in question came from Rockwell Diamonds' South African operations, mined from mid-August to mid-September. The company sold 58 diamonds larger than 10 carats and 4 were larger than 50 carats.
They included a 74.43-carat clean, off-white, rounded, octahedral diamond from Saxendrift and a 79.13-carat white diamond with inclusions of an irregular blocky shape, mined at Klipdam.
All four of the 50+ carat diamond were sold into Rockwell's joint venture agreement with the Steinmetz Diamond Group.
“Results from the latest Rockwell diamond sales reinforce the resilience of the diamond market which has continued to show signs of steady recovery since the sharp downturn of early 2009,” Rockwell Diamonds President and CEO John Bristow said.
