Research on Surface Grinding of SCFS with Diamond Wheel

The SCFS not only has small dilatability,good electricity performance,good resistant chemistry corrosiveness and so on, moreover it has low heat conductivity; and it contracts slightly when it was dried and fired .It was easy to make up complex and big products. Therefore the SCFS has been applied widely in the field of glass, electric power as well as defense industry .It is the main method of grinding engineering ceramics by diamond wheel. The diamond wheel properties and grinding paremeters have effected the material removal rate and the surface quality directly. Many scholars have done lots of studies on the grinding property of typical ceramics, but research on SCFS grinding are very few to people .the research on SCFS performance and grinding characteristic is very needful, and it has important practical significance in instructing actual production. In the paper, the microstructure and the phase composition of SCFS have been tested,its hardness and fracture toughness was measured by doing the impressed experiment, the density, pore rate and so on characteristic of SCFS have been measured.the SCFS is a kind of many pore material,its pore rate is17.38%.and its hardness and fracture toughness are lower than general ceramics. According to the removes mechanism of ceramic material, considering the relations between the most grinding depth of a single grain, the critical grinding depth of SCFS and the grains exposition height from diamond wheel surface, then the grinding removal mechanism of SCFS has been analyzed.thereafter it has been proved that SCFS is removed fracturely. Adopting the single factor method, the experiment of surface grinding about quartz ceramics has been done on the optics curve grinder, and analyzed the influence about grinding wheelgrains and grinding parameters, the experimental results proves that the selection of lower grinding wheel speed,the workpiece moving speed and higher grinding depth with m46 grinding wheel in grinding SCFS is reasonable. According to the theory of surface grinding, it is considered that the grains distribution on the grinding wheel surface randomly, the surface topography on workpiece is simulated by using computer simulation technology, and the number of workpiece surface roughness is uniform between computed and measured, the influence of grinding parameters to the workpiece surface roughness is analyzed too.
