A Senegalese official on Tuesday said pragmatic and efficient Africa-China cooperation had benefited the people of Africa and had gained their approval.

Mamadou Lamine Ba, Senegal's minister for international and humanitarian affairs, said in Beijing that the cooperation between Africa and China had taken into account different traditions, national conditions and people's needs of both China and African countries.

"The pragmatic and efficient cooperation between China and Africa has gained the approval of the African people," he said in an interview with Xinhua.

The cooperation should help African countries develop their infrastructure and better use natural and human resources for faster development of the continent, he said.

China-Africa trade rocketed from 10.6 billion U.S. dollars in 2000 to 91 billion in 2009. The trade figure for the first three quarters of this year reached 93.7 billion U.S. dollars.

China remains Africa's top trading partner while Africa is China's fourth largest overseas investment destination.

Furthermore, in 2009 China's direct investment in Africa stood at 1.44 billion U.S. dollars, nearly six times that in the year 2000.

Mamadou Lamine Ba, also a senior official of the ruling Senegalese Democratic Party (PDS), is visiting China at the invitation of the International Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee.

He said the PDS and the CPC had carried out frequent exchanges to promote Senegal-China cooperation and strengthen the understanding between their people since the two nations resumed diplomatic ties in 2005.
