A Cartier-designed diamond and onyx panther bracelet that belonged to the late Duchess of Windsor Wallis Simpson set a record auction price for a bracelet when it was sold at Sotheby's for £4.5 million, The Guardian reports.
The bracelet was also the most expensive piece of Cartier jewelry to ever be auctioned.
The panther bracelet, which had been estimated to sell for some £3 million, was one of a collection of 20 pieces of Wallis Simpson's jewelry sold by Sotheby's, which included another Cartier jewel – a flamingo crafted from diamonds, rubies, sapphires, and emeralds, which sold for £1.72 million.
