After examining 1,013.75 carats of rough diamonds from the Brauna 3 kimberlite in Brazil's Bahia State, two independent valuation consultants from the diamond trade have assessed the stones at $338 per carats, Vaaldiam Mining, which owns the Brauna site, reports.
Sampling at Brauna was conducted on 4,158 tons of ore, whose average grade was 24.4 carats of diamonds per 100 tons. The average size of diamonds in the sample was 0.21 carats.
The diamonds were valued based on prices for November rough sales in Antwerp. The Antwerp-based International Economic Strategy, one of the diamond companies that assessed the Brauna diamonds, said it would rank Brauna as "one of the best mines in the world."
