Japan's Imports of Polished Diamonds Continue to Rise in November

Japan's imports of polished diamonds continued their upward trend in November 2010.
According to numbers published by Momozawa & Co, Japan (until recently the world's No. 2 consumer of diamonds after the US) imported 189,764 carats of polished diamonds with a value of $57.9 million in November. This represents a 10.5% increase in volume and a 12.6% increase in value compared to the country's polished diamond imports in November 2009.
Japan's polished diamond imports for November 2010 also surpassed those of November 2008, but not the peak year of November 2007.
From January-November 2010, Japan imported a total of $641.7 million worth of diamonds – compared to $619.7 million for the entirety of 2009.
