A document prepared by the Zimbabwe Investment Authority indicates that the country's diamond fields – some of the richest in all the world – are only a small part of the nation's mineral wealth, The Zimbabwean reports.
According to the UK-based news website, the document was prepared to attract foreign investors and assesses the country's diamond resources at 16.5 million tons. But there's much more.
The ZIA report says that Zimbabwe has 2.8 billion tons of platinum, 26 billion tons of coal and 30 billion tons of iron ore – not to mention 13 million tons of gold deposits in five regions: Bindura, Kadoma, Mudzi, Mvuma, and Kwekwe.
Moreover, Zimbabwe boasts copper resources (5.2 million tons), nickel (4.5 million tons), chromite (930 million tons), and the largest reserves of methane gas in Africa.
