An Egyptian employee of a Dubai jewelry store who succumbed to temptation and fled to Egypt with $2.45 million worth of stolen diamonds was sent back immediately to return the diamond jewelry by his brother, who met him at the Alexandria Airport.
According to The Gulf Today website, the brother slapped the thief and warned him that if did not report his act to the Dubai police and return all the stolen merchandise, he would no longer be considered a member of the family. He then purchased a plane ticket to send his brother back.
When the employee entered the store, a police investigative unit was already on the scene, taking fingerprints. He confessed and handed over the diamonds. Brigadier Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansour of the Dubai police called the employee's brother to thank him for his "honesty, truthfulness, and good upbringing."
Gulf Today reports that the culprit is facing charges of dishonesty, and Lt.-Col. Ahmed Humaid Al Merri, Director of the Criminal Investigation Division, said that since he had confessed and returned the diamond jewelry, the court might show him leniency.
