OGI Systems, a leading provider of diamond technology, has launched an international diamond inscription service using its Gemscribe laser tool.
Diamond inscription offers a number of advantages, allowing buyers to identify and track diamonds as well as personalize them as gifts. Wedding and birthdates can be etched into the polished diamond's girdle, making the stone a truly personal memento of a major occasion.
Once the diamond is inscribed – with either a message or a standard serial number – an image of the inscription is attached in bitmap format to the diamond's certificate, adding value.
According to OGI, the advanced laser technology used to inscribe diamonds can be handled by almost anyone. The stone is placed inside the machine and an area of the diamond is selected for inscription. This area is photographed and uploaded to the program screen, after which the text or image to be inscribed is matched to an appropriate section of the diamond's girdle. The actual inscription process is completed in seconds.
OGI has opened diamond inscription centers in North American, the UK, Europe, Tokyo, Australia, and Vietnam. Any diamond company that buys the Gemscribe tool can use the service at no charge.
