India's Polished Diamond Exports Rise 23% by Value in Jan 2011

India's exports of polished diamonds for January 2011 stood at 4.784 million carats worth a total $2.11 billion – a 23% increase by value compared to January 2010.
By volume, the country's polished diamond exports for the month were down 1% year-on-year.
Polished exports realized an average per-carat price of $441.63, a 25% year-on-year increase.
For the month reported, India imported $2.28 billion worth of polished diamonds, a 120% increase over the corresponding month of 2010, and 12.437 million carats of rough diamonds worth $1.02 billion – a 16% increase by value but a 9% drop in terms of volume.
Rough diamond exports stood at $90 million, a 52% year-on-year increase.
