The central event of the upcoming Presidents' Meeting of the International Diamond Manufacturers Association (IDMA), scheduled to take place in Gaborone, Botswana, from April 4-7, will be "The Diamond Beneficiation Pitso" – pitso being the local word for an informal, town hall-style meeting.
The Diamond Beneficiation Pitso will be held at the Walmont Hotel from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. on the opening day of the meeting and is intended to highlight Botswana's role in the global diamond industry.
Botswana Diamond Manufacturers Association (BDMA) President Mervin Lipschitz said that the international industry gathering would be a first for the country and a "wonderful opportunity" to showcase Botswana's thriving diamond sector.
IDMA President Moti Ganz said it was important for the IDMA to hold meetings in diamond-producing nations and said that Botswana was a prime example of how the diamond mining industry had "contributed positively to the development of the economy and social structure of a previously disadvantaged country."
In addition to the event focusing on diamond beneficiation, attendees at the 2011 IDMA Presidents' Meeting will be offered tours of local rough diamond sorting facilities and the world-renowned Jwaneng diamond mine.
