Liberia's diamond production dropped in 2010, while gold output was on the rise, Bloomberg reports, quoting figures published by the Central Bank of Liberia.
The country's output of rough diamonds stood at 25,357 carats for 2010 compared to 36,752 in 2009, a year in which Liberia's diamond exports comprised $11.2 million.
Rubber production was also down in 2010, dropping 16.5% to 52,495 metric tons – which the central bank attributed to ageing trees.
Gold production was up 52% over 2009, while cocoa production more than tripled, comprising 17,256 tons. Liberia borders the Ivory Coast, which is the world's top cocoa producer but stopped cocoa exports for February 2011 due to an ongoing presidential succession crisis.
