Revenue from Zimbabwe's diamond deposits will provide the government with enough income to buck sanctions imposed by the West, President Robert Mugabe said this week.
Afrique en ligne (afriquejet.com) reports Mugabe saying that full exploitation of Zimbabwe's rich mineral resources would "tell the world" that it does not deserve to be sanctioned.
According to some estimates, once Zimbabwe's diamond production hits its peak, the nation could account for 25% of the global supply of rough diamonds.
