India's Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) will be hosting an "India Show" at the Indian Pavilion at this year's BaselWorld watch and jewelry show.
The India Show will feature presentations of Indian culture, jewelry, and fashion, as well as Indian cuisine prepared by some of the country's leading chefs. The presentations, a government initiative entrusted to the GJEPC, are aimed at strengthening bilateral trade relations. The national pavilion will also feature a special "India Gallery" that will showcase special jewelry creations by Indian gem and jewelry manufacturers exhibiting at Basel.
GJEPC Chairman Rajiv Jain noted that India expected its exports of gems and jewelry to grow by 35% in 2011, and its diamond jewelry market to increase by 15-20% by 2015. Jain noted that India's market for high-end diamond jewelry was seeing annual growth of 50%.
With the government's support, Jain said, the GJEPC was a step closer to creating Brand India and establishing India as the global diamond trading hub.
