A diamond and emerald necklace worth $1 million was stolen from the Zela Jeweler booth at the 32nd Istanbul Jewelry Expo on Friday, the Turkish Cihan news agency reports.
The theft occurred at approximately 14:30. Security footage showed a group of seven suspects, five men and two women, who worked together to distract the booth's staff, provide cover, and remove the necklace from the display case.
According to Zela Jeweler owner Norayr Isler, the necklace – which contains nine emeralds weighing 125 carats and 100 carats of diamonds – took three jewelers eight months to create.
Police used the security footage and the digital ID recorded for all attendees of the exhibition to identify the seven suspects, all of whom are Filipino nationals. Interpol was searching for the suspects.
