The Indian Institute of Gems & Jewellery (IIGJ) has inaugurated a second diamond trade institute in Mumbai, the Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council reports.
The Tardeo institute offers courses in diamond grading as well as in jewelry design (basic and advanced) and computer-aided jewelry design. An enameling course is scheduled to launch in the near future.
IIGJ Chairman Vasant Mehta noted that currently, the four IIGJ institutes operating in India (two in Mumbai, and one each in Delhi and Jaipur) offered different curricula, but that the IIGJ was seeking to bring all the programs and certification "under one umbrella."
In other news from Mumbai, over 300 attendees participated in the Gemological Institute of America's first GIA Career Fair in India last week. Diamond manufacturers and jewelry manufacturers accounted for about 70% of the companies taking part in the event.
Nirupa Bhatt, Managing Director of GIA India and Middle East, said that India's growing jewelry and diamond market creating "vast career opportunities" and that there was "no better time" to help launch a platform that connected potential employers and employees.
