The Mothae kimberlite project in Lesotho continues to yield large diamonds, the Lucara Diamond Corporation announced Wednesday.
In mid-March, sample C9A was completed, producing 1,937.65 carats of rough diamonds from 40,370 dry tons of kimberlite for a sample grade of 4.80 carats per hundred tons (cpht). C9A produced three diamonds greater than 20 carats; eight diamonds between 10 and 20 carats; 28 diamonds between 5 and 10 carats and 82 diamonds between 2 and 5 carats.
The three largest stones from sample C9A weighed 48.54, 33.80 and 21.82 carats. The two largest of these stones represent broken halves of a single octahedron with an original weight of 82.34 carats.
Total sampling at the C kimberlite at the Mothae project thus far has yielded 12,357 diamonds with a combined weight of 5,483.55 carats.
The project is 75% owned by Lucara subsidiary Mothae Diamonds, with the government of Lesotho holding the remaining 25% interest.
