Elgin Marbles retrieved by Greece antiquities theft department

To protect cultural heritage,Greek governments have recently stepped up their efforts to reclaim stolen cultural artefacts.It is reported that Dozens of illegally exported items have been returned in recent years.The most high profile case is that of the Elgin Marbles,which is now on display in the British Museum.The Elgin Marbles include some 17 figures from the statuary from the east and west pediments, 15 of the metope panels depicting battles between the Lapiths and the Centaurs, as well as 247 feet of the Parthenon Frieze which decorated the horizontal course set above the interior architrave of the temple.
