The Diamond Trading Company and DTC Botswana have decided to adjust their minimum diamond utilization thresholds.
For applicants registering for a Canadian Sight, or for Sights in London or Botswana, diamantaires now need to demonstrate total rough diamond utilization of at least $50 million over the course of the past three years (2008-2010), comprising a minimum utilization of $20 million in 2008 and 2010, and a minimum utilization of $10 million in 2009. The previous stated requirement had been for a minimum utilization of $20 million each year during this period.
“It is vital that the selection process is fair to all companies interested in becoming a Sightholder, while maintaining our commercial position as a wholesale distributor of rough diamonds,” said Mahiar Borhanjoo, Executive Director, DTC Sales and Sightholder Services.
“The feedback we received formed a compelling case to downward adjust the minimum diamond utilization criterion since global diamond sales during 2009 were substantially lower, and we believe that we need to reflect this in a reduced threshold for that year.”
The DTC requires all applicants to be able to demonstrate a minimum level of rough diamond utilization and turnover. These minimum levels vary by country, depending on the location in which supply is required.
A company must register its interest before 23:59 (London time) on April 18 2011, or it will be ineligible for consideration for a 2012-2015 Supplier of Choice supply contract.
