A regular visitor to the Crater of Diamonds State Park in Murfreesboro, Arkansas, last week discovered a 3.86-carat white diamond – the largest diamond turned up at the park this year and the largest diamond discovered at the park since the 4.89-carat Ghost Diamond, dug up by a visitor on April 20, 2010.
The man, who preferred that his name not be published, brought the stone to the park offices to have it registered. After discussing possible names for the diamond with park staff, the finder settled on "Heart of Arkansas," which honors both his home state and the diamond's triangular shape.
The Heart of Arkansas Diamond was unearthed in the same area that yielded the 2.44-carat Silver Moon Diamond on March 20 of this year.
Since the beginning of 2011, park visitors have dug up 129 diamonds, 10 of which weighed over 1 carat each.
