A number of lots of diamond jewelry sold at Sotheby's Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite auction in Hong Kong fetched multi-million dollar prices, but on the whole per-carat prices remained lackluster, particularly when compared to some of the seven-figure sales last year for diamonds such as the Graff Pink or the Perfect Pink.
The top-selling lot at the Hong Kong sale was 25.50-carat D color, Flawless loose diamond. The stone was knocked down for $5.13 million – a per-carat price of $201,177.
A pair of Harry Winston earrings set with two pear-shaped diamonds weighing 14.42 and 14.04 carats, each topped by a 4-carat oval diamond, sold for $4.84 million, a per-carat price of $132,675.
A 6.64-carat D color, Flawless brilliant-cut diamond realized a price of $1.01 million, or $152,108 per carat.
Despite relatively low per-carat prices, the sale brought in $53.5 million, Sotheby's second-highest auction total ever.
