Diamond Trading Company (DTC) CEO Varda Shine met with members of India's diamond industry in Mumbai on Monday.
India's Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council reports that Shine presented an overview of the DTC and the diamond market, noting that in 2010 India had seen a 31% increase in demand for diamond jewelry and that demand was expected to rise another 20% in 2011.
According to the GJEPC, Surat's diamond manufacturing units have nearly returned to full-scale production. Shine noted that India was selling more polished diamonds to US retailers, who have begun stocking up.
Shine told the diamond dealers and industry representatives that rough diamond prices were expected to continue to rise after increasing close to 27% over the course of 2010 as global diamond trade bounced back from the financial crisis of 2008.
