Tata Motors recently made a statement that the company was in the process of selecting a production site out of the country. Not sure of the location, the company rep said the company was certainly considering Africa, either, South East Asia and Latin America. The company was weighing certain opportunities and locating sites where they would be assured of incessant and continuous supplies of their components.
Mr. Kishor A Chaukar, Managing Director of Tata Industries, a branch of Tata Sons that looks after its investments told the media that selection of a venue is in an advanced stage. He went on to state that they were in the process of weighing possibilities. Most important factor would be the availability of supplies because a single Nano requires thousands of components which should be reliable, specific and of high quality.
It was in 2009 that the Tata Motors divulged its European edition of the Nano. This car is expected to be launched in Europe this year. Called Nano Europa, the vehicle was unveiled at the 79th Motor Show held in Geneva, and is a highly tweaked version of its Indian counterpart.
