At the recent BaselWorld watch and jewelry show, a group of what authorities believe to be highly-organized and professional criminals stole diamonds worth some $10 million from an exhibitor's showcase. Malca-Amit underwriters have agreed to settlement of the claim in full.
"Never before in the diamond and jewelry industry has there been such a quick settlement of a claim of this magnitude," said Nigel Paxman, CEO Malca-Amit Global Ltd.
Minutes after the exhibitor reported the crime, representatives of Malca-Amit and its subsidiary insurance broker MIRA were on site to help their client deal with the aftermath of the theft. Within a week, a full investigation into the incident had been completed and MIRA had obtained underwriters' approval to pay the entire insurance claim – the shortest time in which a claim of such a high value has been paid.
"Malca-Amit is taking extraordinary steps to help their clients protect themselves against the rise in trade-show thefts," notes Aaron Hochberg, Managing Director Malca-Amit Israel.
Malca-Amit and its subsidiary MIRA have led the way in advising jewelry and diamond companies on initiatives and measures to take regarding security and theft prevention during exhibitions. They were the first company to lobby for the use of CCTV in their clients' booths.
"As witnessed in Switzerland just a few weeks ago, the company’s experienced on-site representatives can react in minutes to any incidents that occur, helping companies through what otherwise can be an arduous and complicated reporting procedure," adds Hochberg.
