Swaziland's Dvokolwako diamond mine is scheduled to reopen within a few weeks and employ 2,500 workers by the time operations reach full capacity, the Times of Swaziland reports.
The mine will be operated by Roux Consolidated Investments. Company owner Roux Shabangu told the Times that he wants to open as many jobs in Swaziland as possible. The first phase of the mine's reopening is expected to employ 300 people.
Swaziland's Commissioner of Mines Aaron Vilakati said that Dvokolwako is assessed to have a diamond production life of 12-15 years. Vilakati added that varying diamond prices made it difficult to estimate the total value of the mine's diamond resources.
Last week, two delegations from Swaziland visited the Israeli Diamond Industry. During the second visit, diamond industry officials announced the country's admission into the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme.
