The latest scandal involving troubled actress Lindsay Lohan came to an end Wednesday when Lohan pleaded no contest to stealing a diamond necklace from a Los Angeles jewelry store.
Judge Stephanie Sautner of the Los Angeles Superior Court put Lohan on three years' probation and ordered her to get psychological counseling. Lohan was also sentenced to 120 days in jail for violating her drunk driving probation, of which she will most likely serve only two weeks.
Lohan was accused of trying on the gold and diamond necklace in question at a jewelry store in Venice and leaving the store wearing it, which could be seen in security camera footage. She was later photographed wearing the jewel. However, Lohan has maintained that she didn't steal the necklace, claiming at one point that it had been lent to her and was supposed to have been returned by an assistant.
The case has garnered massive media attention in recent months. The owners of the jewelry store, who came under criticism for selling the security camera footage on line, have promised to auction off the necklace – valued at a relatively modest $2,500 – and donate the proceeds to charity when the case was concluded.
