India's Polished Diamond Exports Show Modest Rise; Colored Gemstone Exports Soar

India's exports of cut and polished diamonds continued to rise in April 2011, albeit modestly, totaling over $2 billion – a 5.53% increase by value over the corresponding quarter of 2010, the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) reports.
Colored gemstone exports, on the other hand, showed a 51.18% year-on-year leap and totaled $16.6 million in April 2011 compared to $10.98 million in April 2010.
India's gold jewelry exports for the month reported were down slightly, comprising $1.023 billion, compared to $1.028 billion in the corresponding quarter last year, while its exports of silver jewelry rose sharply from $29.97 million in April 2010 to $40.33 million in April 2011 – a 34.57% rise.
Total gem and jewelry exports for April 2011 were valued at $3.215 billion, 4.48% more than the $3.077 billion worth of gem and jewelry exported in April 2010.
