De Beers Canada Report Stresses Sustainable Diamond Mining, Social Responsibility

De Beers Canada's 2010 Report to Society, published this week, stresses the diamond mining giant's activity toward sustainable mining development and social responsibility.
Tom Ormsby, Director of External and Corporate Affairs for De Beers Canada, said that company sought to minimize the environmental impact of recovering rough diamonds.
According to the report, De Beers Canada provided work for 1,087 people and generated $474 million into the Canadian economy and was operating under eight agreements with Canada's First Nations communities.
In total, De Beers Canada mined 1.75 million carats over the course of 2010 – 926,000 at the Snap Lake Diamond Mine and 826,000 at the Victor Mine.
