A Pakistani government minister accused of allegedly aiding and abetting the smuggling of diamonds into the country is likely to step down according to the Times of India.
According to reports, Punjab Prisons Minister Chaudhry Abdul Ghafoor insisted upon removing the luggage of his guests at the Lahore Airport prior to the scanning process.
Customs officials stated that they had been tipped off that a passenger arriving via Thai Airways on May 19 was carrying diamonds. The only passengers to evade screening on the flight were the minister’s two guests.
Times of India states that Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has frozen Minister’s Ghafoor duties and a committee has been set up to investigate the matter.
