The Israel Diamond Institute's Hong Kong office is preparing for two upcoming exhibitions in Asia – one in Shanghai, China, from June 16-19, and the second in Hong Kong from June 23-26.
At the Shanghai exhibition the IDI will be setting up a promotional booth that will focus on the Israeli Diamond Industry with the goal of presenting the Israeli Diamond Industry and collecting information about buyers and entrepreneurs in China.
In Hong Kong, the IDI will for the first time be hosting an Israeli pavilion in which 60 Israeli companies will be showing.
Since the start of the year, the Hong Kong market has remained stable and even seen a rise in demand. Israeli companies' eagerness to exhibit in the IDI pavilion indicates their belief in the market and their desire to strengthen their marketing efforts and business ties in Asia.
The number of people who visit the IDI representative in Hong Kong is also an indication of Hong Kong's increasing interest as a diamond trading destination.
In a conversation with Eitan Enidger, who represents Pluma Diamonds in Asia, he told us: "The market is looking for product, and the moderate rise in the diamond price list isn't deterring buyers, who are expressing confidence. The product in Hong Kong is clearly intended mainly for the Chinese market, which is growing rapidly. The lower-quality goods mostly find their way to India."
In June, IDI Hong Kong will bring in a new managing director. Michal Gordon Keret will take over from Orly Yaffe, who is finishing her role as IDI Hong Kong MD after four years. Gordon Keret arrives in Hong Kong after a number of years in Taiwan and Japan, where she was busy with volunteer work and learning about Far East culture.
