New diamond firm enters the fray

JKD Namibia is borne out of a partnership between the Julius Klein Group (JKG) of New York and its Namibian partner, Dinamo Group. JKG is the major shareholder in the venture. According to JKD Marketing Manager and Dinamo partner, Phillipine Angula more than N$30 million have been invested in the setting up of a state of the art facility which is committed to embracing beneficiation of the country's raw gems. JKD Namibia was incorporated into the industry in June last year and started its initial operations last week, and is expected to be running at full throttle by July. Angula said since its inception, JKD Namibia has been recruiting and providing intensive training in the art of diamond cutting and polishing in Windhoek in order to impart the necessary skills and knowledge for the facility to become proficient in all aspects of diamond manufacturing The company currently employs 91 staff (of which 68 are Namibian) and, once at full operational capacity, will employ over 125 staff. JKG President AD Klein commented on the new development saying, "With this new venture, we bring with us the same traditions and values upon which Julius Klein Diamonds was built: integrity, trust, dedication and pride in craftsmanship." Namibia Diamond Trading Company CEO, Shihaleni Ndjaba added "The entry of JKD Namibia to the Namibian diamond manufacturing industry marks an important milestone in the local beneficiation process. JKG also has a diamond manufacturing plant in South Africa.
