Eastern China's Jiangxi Province has temporarily lifted restrictions on power supply as recent rainfall has boosted hydropower production, the Jiangxi provincial government said June 9.
After a period of heavy rainfall beginning June 4, hydropower plants with an aggregate installed capacity of more than one gigawatt (GW) have gone back on-line in drought-stricken province, the government said.
The increased hydropower output could ease power shortages in Jiangxi until June 13, said the provincial government. However, if water levels drop, the power restrictions will be reinstated, the government added.
With the province's power plants back on-line, Jiangxi has an operating power generation capacity of 10 GW, enough to feed the local power demand of 9.2 GW, according to government statistics.
