India's Cut and Polished Diamond Exports Up 23.5% in May

India's exports of gems and jewelry totaled $3.7 billion in May 2011, a 33.5% increase over the corresponding month of 2010, the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) reports.
Cut and polished diamond exports for the month reported stood at $2.22 billion, a 23.5% increase over the $1.79 billion of cut and polished diamonds exported in May 2010.
Gold exports, including jewelry, medallions, and coins totaled $1.24 billion for the month reported, growth of more than 47% over the corresponding month of 2010, while silver jewelry exports increased even more, comprising $44.4 million compared to the $28.47 million in May 2010.
Colored gemstone exports were also up, albeit showing a more modest increase of just over 9%, standing at $26.99 million compared to $24.7 million in May of last year.
