Rajiv Jain, Chairman of India's Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), has decried what he calls the "politicizing" of the Kimberley Process and said that it has affected the operations of the entire Indian diamond industry.
In a statement expressing disappointment over the KP's Intersessional Meeting's failure to resolve the issue of Marange diamond exports, Jain said that the GJEPC "decried the division that are stopping the rightful exports from compliant mines in Marange."
The statement said that the "politicization of the [Kimberley Process] is demeaning the good efforts of the industry in… creating a mechanism against conflict diamonds" and that India, one of the founders of the KP, would not allow it to stop the people of Africa from exploiting their own resources.
However, the GJEPC stressed that India remained "committed" to the Kimberley Process.
