Pune: Machine tool major, Yamazaki Mazak is planning to set up two more technology centers in India to provide more effective service and support to customers across the Indian sub-continent. The new technology centers are likely come up in Chennai,in the south, and Delhi, in the north.
The company is targeting a 40% increase in sales from India during FY 2011-12. Earlier this year, Mazak had opened its first technology center in Pune with state of the art infrastructure and engineers trained in Japan to provide total solutions to meet a variety of production requirements.
According to Takashi Yamazaki, Senior Managing Director of Yamazaki Mazak, the Indian market for machine tools is big and it is growing fast. "It is a very important market for Mazak," he adds.
Currently 33% of Mazak's business comes from USA, 18% from China and India's contribution is 5-7%.
"Our advantage in India is that we have customers all over India and we have systems in place to well support customers anywhere in India. We sell machines to almost all engineering sectors like Energy, Infrastructure, General Engineering, Heavy vehicles, Commercial aerospace etc. All these segments are growing in India," said Takashi Yamazaki.
Speaking about the company's interest in the aerospace sector, he said that Mazak has rich experience in meeting the demands of aerospace component machining the world over. In addition to Boeing being one of its top five customers, Mazak has sold machines to thousands of companies supplying parts to Boeing and Airbus. The aviation Industry has been moving from Aluminium to Titanium, composites and other hard materials which call for machines with higher spindle torques and rigidity and special designs to absorb vibration and withstand the higher cutting loads.
Mazak has five different R&D teams across the globe continuously working on developing newer, intelligent manufacturing technologies that are energy efficient and environment friendly while constantly improving the accuracy, speed and reliability of the machines.
"I see good future demand for automation in India as labour in India is not cheap any more and the wages are going up by 15% or more every year. Automation brings in much higher productivity," said Takashi Yamazaki.
"With less number of good engineers coming to the manufacturing industries experienced engineers are not always available to meet the requirement of the industry. Intelligent technologies developed by Mazak helps companies to reduce dependency in experienced professionals to meet up the manufacturing challenges," he added.
