Indian Gujarat Hira Bourse (GHB) has decided to put its jewelry and gem park on the fast track to completion, hoping to begin operations by the middle of 2010.
According to GHB, the company aims to complete street lighting, roads, water supply and water drainage by the end of 2009.
"The upcoming jewelry park will boost the jewelry industry in the city by giving much needed impetus to the domestic and international sales," said Chandrakant Sanghavi, president, GHB.
Sanghavi added that the park will be of "world-class standards," and will change the face of the jewelry industry in Surat, Gujarat. GHB is hoping that because jewelry manufactured in India is much cheaper than many global rivals, more buyers will be convinced to participate in the local market and boost the Indian jewelry and diamond industries.
The global financial crisis and several delays in the project have driven 140 members out of the total 340 to drop out of the jewelry project.
