Diamond Production in Sierra Leone Down by One Third

Sierra Leone's diamond production dropped to 28,110 carats in April 2011, a decline of 33% from March, the nation's central bank reports.
The diamonds produced included 15,030 carats of gem-quality stones and 13,080 carats of industrial grade diamonds.
In 2009, Sierra Leone was the second-largest diamond producer in west Africa, after Guinea.
Gold production also declined, dropping 18% from March 2011.
